"Just Like Me, is easy to enjoy - the type of swinging and creative jazz that never goes out of style; a milestone in the career of Jeff Kaye." liner notes by Scott Yanow
Los Angeles based jazz trumpeter Jeff Kaye spent the last 20 years traveling the world as the soloist for the Ray Charles Orchestra. Now with time enough to pursue his own group sound, Jeff celebrates the release of his debut CD, "Just Like Me", on the Jazzed Media label. Moving into the driver's seat of his own exciting quintet, the project is a long time in coming but, according to Jeff, worth the wait. "This is the type of jazz and blues that I love." Kaye's trumpet playing is enthusiastic, creative and swinging throughout.
Joined by a group of life-long friends and renowned LA jazz musicians including pianist John Campbell and Charles' band-mates George Harper on tenor and Paul Kreibich on drums, the group plays bold statements in bop, tender ballad moments and deep shades of blue. Original music and straight-ahead playing are central to the quintet's sound with grooves that truly reflect Kaye's musical journey and way of life. "Just Like Me" provides a variety of flavors that will please all straight ahead jazz fans.
